Bahrain Financial Harbour

I just had an excellent lunch with the Bahrain British Business Forum at which we were treated to a presentation on the Bahrain Financial harbour, now under construction on reclaimed land alongside central Manama.
One or two things were highly amusing, particularly one when our speaker, referring to the hotel being built at the BHF, stated that there aren't really any 5 star hotels in Bahrain that adhere to 'International Standards' we were sitting in the Hilton and amongst the membership we had representatives of the Ritz Carlton, Crowne Plaza, Diplomat, Regency and Gulf Hotels - they were 'not amused', I nearly fell off my chair!
... to reminisce - I was once involved in a Dhow trip which, to cut a long story short, ended with the Dhow sinking just off Manama on our way back - we managed to swim/wade ashore with our coldboxes and emerged from the sea on the Corniche right where the BFH is now sitting - I remember hailing a taxi, completely soaked but at least armed with adeqaute refreshment, and being taken back to the Dhow port in Muharraq from whence we had sailed -- in those days there was a beautiful coral reef teeming with life and the taxi driver didn't try to rip us off - those were the days !
